What time does the race start?
1 mile starts at 9 am.
5k starts at 9:20 once the milers have finished.
Is this a chip-timed race?
No, you will need to use your own device (watch, etc) to track your time.
Where will the water/aide stations be?
We will have 2 stations at mile 1 and the turn around for the 5k.
Who gets medals?
Kool Smiles provides free medals for all kids under 12 who run either race.
Other medals:
Top 3 finishers in the 1 mile
Top 3 males in the 5k
Top 3 females in the 5k
Top 3 in each age group and each gender in the 5k
Age groups are 0-11, 12-17, 18-29, 30-45 and 45+
What kind of food should I bring?
Any non-perishable food items such shelf-stable milk, canned fish & poultry, canned or dried beans, canned fruits & veggies, brown rice, whole grain cereal, whole wheat pasta, soup, chili, stew, 100% fruit juice canned, plastic, or boxed, unsaturated cooking oils, peanut butter, mac&cheese, full meals in a can/box, “pop top” food items. The food bank also requests reduced sodium and reduced sugar when possible. Please no glass containers. Click the Summer of Sharing tab for more details or go to www.spfb.org
Where do I take the food?
There will be a South Plains Food Bank truck loading food as well as barrels you can place food in.
Do I really need to register since the race is free?
Yes, we need you to register to sign the waiver and we need to have your emergency contact.
You will not be eligible for a medal without registering either. We also want to have an accurate count of participants for our records. Thank you! Register Now.
Can we bring strollers?
YES! There will be many people with strollers. When lining up at the start, please position yourself behind runners without strollers however.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, you may bring and run with your dog. We only ask that you keep them on a leash throughout the event.
Am I suppose to dress in costume?
You do not need to dress up as a super hero. The event will certainly be more fun if you do though!!
Will I get a t-shirt?
This being a free event, the number of shirts we order depends on our sponsor support. (approximately 300 shirts) We will be giving out shirts on a First Come, First Serve basis starting at our packet pick-up Saturday and again on Monday morning while supplies last.
If I am volunteering, what time should I be at MacKenzie Park?
We would like our volunteers to arrive by 7:30.

This is our 9th year running but recent numbers are...
2015 - 840 registered runners, 3,642 lbs in food donations
2016 - 742 registered runners, 2,387 lbs in food donations
2017 - 775 registered runners, 3,611 lbs, plus $950 monetary/online donations
Will there be food?
YES!! We will have fruit and a variety of bagels free for runners and spectators.
What is the best way to be updated on any race changes?
